Lahey Hospital Plans $76M Expansion with Helipad, Oncology Center

Lahey officials said they need to accommodate more patients.

Lahey Hospital & Medical Center is planning a $76 million expansion for its emergency department that will include a helipad, radiation oncology center, and CT scanners.

The Boston Globe reported the state Public Health Council approved the project Wednesday.

Lahey officials said they need to accommodate more patients. The emergency department was originally designed to treat about 16,000 patients a year. In 2013, it treated 39,000 patients, according to the Globe.
