Shopping Local For The Holidays

Patch wants to know which merchants offer the best solutions for gifts and holiday fare.

With Christmas two weeks away and Hanukkah being celebrated through Dec. 16, residents across West Islip are on the hunt for gifts and party goods to celebrate the holidays with family and friends.

Perhaps more than ever this year, there is added importance on supporting local businesses. Already facing challenging economic conditions, local merchants are also looking to drive sales in an effort to recover revenue lost while area residents focused their attention on the cleanup from Hurricane Sandy.

To give local businesses some additional exposure, Patch is asking readers where they shop in their local community for gifts, party goods and other provisions needed to help celebrate their holiday.

In the comments section below, tell us what local merchants you shop and what items you purchase at a given store. Later this week, check back with Patch to see what your neighbors said. Perhaps you’ll get an idea of where to shop for that needed last minute gift.

Hawleys has the best ornaments. My favorite is the one that has 2 beach chairs with the bridge in the background and says West Islip. I do make sure to go in without my kids though. Too many things for them to touch and break.

Here is a winning merchant I found on line. I must admit I never heard of a TickleMe Plant before and could hardly believe my eyes when we grew and Tickled the plant. See video ...cute educational kits that make it easy to grow this interactive pet like plant http://www.ticklemeplant.com Use coupon code Holiday and they take off $2.oo
