Skyworks in Woburn Takes on $149 Million Joint Venture with Panasonic

Skyworks will join with Panasonic to make a new component.

Skyworks Solutions, a Woburn-based semiconductor company, is planning to pay $149 million in a joint venture with Panasonic Corp. to design a new component to be used in smartphones and other wireless devices, reported the Boston Business Journal.

The component is called the SAW filter, which is built into the modules manufactured at Skyworks, which is in turn sent to mobile device makers. The demand for the component has grown in recent years, said the Business Journal.Β
