Target Opening Store in Nearby Wilmington

The new store will open in October 2014 and will include a Starbucks and a pharmacy.

Residents in the area are used to shopping at Target in Woburn. But soon, there will be another option just minutes away.

Target announced that it plans to open a new store in Wilmington in October 2014.

The store will be located at 210 Ballardvale St., which is off Route 125 and near Route 93. It is one of 10 stores the company is planning to open in 2014.

The Wilmington store will be approximately 130,000 square feet, and will include fresh produce, fresh packaged meat and pre-packaged baked goods, as well as a Starbucks and a Target Pharmacy.

It will employ approximately 150 people. Target will host job fairs approximately two months prior to the new store opening, at which prospective candidates may apply and interview for open positions. Candidates may also apply online at Target.com/careers or at in-store kiosks located in all Target stores approximately three months prior to the new store opening.

"The northern Massachusetts market has always been a priority for Target," said Samir Shah, Target’s senior vice president of stores in the Eastern region. "With the launch of the new Wilmington Target store this October, we are proud to affirm our commitment to the community by serving as a good neighbor to our guests and local employer to our new Team Members."

Target said it also plans to make efforts to be part of the local community, including starting a local grant program, contributing to the United Way and donating food to a Feeding America member or approved agency.

Several Wilmington Patch readers have commented in recent months that the opening of the Wilmington store doesn't make sense to them because it is located in such a close proximity to the Woburn location.

Do you agree? Do you think the Wilmington store will take away business from the Woburn location? Are there too many Target stores in the area? Let us know in the comments section below.
