Trimble Navigation relocates to Woburn from Kendall

International firm Trimble Navigation (NASDAQ: TRMB) is scheduled to make its move from Cambridge’s Kendall Square to Woburn this week. The 35-year-old company will be expanding from approximately 6,500 square feet into a 19,000-square-foot stand-alone building at 1 Merrill Street.

Based in Sunnyvale, Calif., Trimble Navigation provides mobile computing, positioning, and tracking equipment, as well as its associated software support, to such diverse industries as civil engineering, telecommunications, trucking, farming, and construction.

Cummings Properties, which manages the Merrill Street building and coordinated a significant buildout for Trimble, incorporated Trimble’s focus on keeping pace with evolving industry standards by giving the facility a contemporary feel. In addition to providing an exclusive, outside patio area, it revealed raised exposed ceilings, added multiple skylights and sidelight windows throughout the premises, and painted colorful accent walls. The new office spaces will feature cubicles with both sitting and standing workstations.

This is not the first time Trimble Navigation has worked with Cummings Properties.  Since 2006, it has leased a 6,000-square-foot warehouse/R&D space from the commercial real estate company, at 4 Henshaw Street, Woburn.

Account Manager Maureen Brennan from Cummings Properties worked directly with Trimble’s CFO, Tom Grant, and its controller, Anna Thompson, to complete this most recent lease.

“Cummings Properties is delighted to welcome technology companies coming out of Cambridge, like Trimble, to the area,” said Brennan. “We are happy to provide these clients with first-class custom space and be able to do it at significantly lower rates than they would find in Cambridge.”
