1) Veterans Day observance

Today is Nov. 12, the official holiday observance of Veterans Day (Nov. 11). Although the city held its parade and new war memorial dedication on Sunday, Woburn City Hall, public schools and other businesses will observe Veterans Day today.

2) Free fun for veterans

The Boston Rock Gym will honor veterans today with a free "day of climbing." Show proof of your military service, and you can go indoor rock-climbing for free! Click here for more details. For more . 

 

3) Summer-like weather

According to the National Weather Service's specialized forecast just for Woburn, it's going to feel a little bit like summer today. The NWS says we'll have temperatures in the 70s and sunshine all day today. To put that in perspective, our average high temperature in Woburn for this time of year is 53 degrees. The record high for Nov. 12 was 66 degrees in 1982. (The record low was 13 degrees in '76.)

  • 1924—Young Woburn Girl Shot Dead—A 50-year-old father was held for questioning after the shooting death of his 14-year-old daughter on Center Street. 
  • 1935—Kenney Is Victor In Woburn Fight—Mayor Edward W. Kenney defeated Sherwood H. Van Tassel by 648 votes.
