Make sure to check in with today's column of news, events, history and more.

Here are five things you need to know today in Woburn:

1) Solar feasibility

The Woburn Housing Authority is expected to discuss a resolution authorizing a solar panel feasibility study for WHA buildings in Woburn at its meeting this afternoon. Meeting begins at 4 p.m. at 59 Campbell St.

2) WMHS basketball

School vacation usually means some time off and some great athletic events to keep us busy. Today, the Woburn Memorial High School boys' varsity team will play in Holliston at 4 p.m., if you want to make the trip.

3) Snow turns to rain

According to the National Weather Service's pinpointed forecast for Woburn, we'll see a little snow, but mostly rain today. Expect fog and temperatures in the mid-40s. Hold onto those umbrellas and hats, wind gusts could reach 29 miles per hour.

4) In case you missed it

All this week, we'll be remembering the year 2012. Yesterday, we outlined the top 12 most widely-read stories on Woburn Patch over the year. Check them out here.

5) Historic Headline

Let's take a walk through Woburn's history, shall we? A headline in the newspaper regarding Dec. 27 events in Woburn was:

  • 1897—Whole City Mourns Him—Funeral is held for former mayor M. T. Allen on Church Avenue. Service is attended by several "prominent" citizens and associates.
