5T: Woburn Police Work Without Pay ... In 1938

According to the National Weather Service's specialized forecast just for Woburn, it's going to be a rather cold Election Day in the city. The NWS expects sunny skies, but temperatures will only be in the low-40s. We'll probably have some light wind in the afternoon. By the time the polls close, temperatures could be heading toward the high-20s!

• 1922—Woburn Steeple Jack Has Narrow Escape—A steeple jack is overcome with gas fumes while working in a 110-foot steel chimney. He was rescued by fireman Daniel Gerrigan.
• 1937—Doherty Sees President—Daniel J. Doherty of Woburn, the National Commander of the American Legion, meets President Roosevelt. 
• 1938—Woburn Police Without Wages—The police department was unpaid and the Fire Department and school teachers were next on the list.
• 1951—Disputed Ballots in Woburn Held on Court Order—45 disputed ballots were impounded in court.
