9/11 Events in Woburn

Several events will be held today, on the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

In remembrance of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, as well as in celebration of Woburn as a community, several events will be held today.

1 p.m. — Sounding of bells/sirens for one full minute; including at the Farmer’s Market/Spence Farm as part of a national Moment of Remembrance. Residents are encouraged to stop what they are doing to join cities and towns across the nation at that moment to remember the people this nation lost on that day, honor the heroic service, actions and sacrifices of first responders and countless others who aided the innocent victims of those attacks; and reaffirm that the people of the City of Woburn and this country will never forget the challenges our country endured on and since Sept. 11, 2001

7 p.m. — In the wake of the shooting of Woburn Police Officer Robert DeNapoli and the manhunt that ensued through the streets of Woburn on Tuesday, we invite the Woburn community to gather together for a time of unity, reflection, ecumnical prayer, and conversation at a Candlelight Vigil to be held in Woburn Center this Sunday evening, September 11th, at 7pm.

We invite community members of all backgrounds and religious tranditions to join us for this event.

We will pray for Officer DeNapoli's recovery, our local law enforcement - and mindful of the 10th anniversary of 9/11 - all the first responders that keep our communities safe.

We love our town. Woburn is a great city and one of our greatest strengths is our sense of community and belonging. It binds us together in good times and bad, just as it did at the shooting of Police Officer Jack Maguire in December. It is this strength that will we seek to honor and support at the vigil.

The vigil will take place in Woburn Center (specific spot to be announced). Coffee will be served afterward at the First Baptist Church at the corner of Main and Winn street. First Baptist will also serve as the vigil site in case of inclement weather.

7:30 p.m. —  Candlelight vigil at Glen Road where it meets Day Circle. Residents will show our support as a neighborhood united and Americans!
