Celebrate Memorial Day Weekend in Woburn

Woburn's Veteran's Director Larry Guiseppe and Commander of United Veterans Council George Pool are inviting residents to a weekend full of events.

Woburn will be honoring U.S. veterans and members of the U.S. Armed Forces that risked and gave their lives with two special services this weekend and on Memorial Day on Monday, May 27.

Woburn's Veteran's Director Larry Guiseppe and Commander of United Veterans Council George Pool are inviting residents to take part in a host of activities.

"On behalf of the United Veterans Council of Woburn and the Veteran’s Office of the City of Woburn, I would like to invite you to participate in our annual Memorial Day parade and ceremonies on Monday May 27," Guiseppe said in a release.

The parade will start at the Armory and march to Woburn Common for a ceremony, then proceed to Woodbrook Cemetery for a ceremony.  A bus will take us to the East Woburn Fire Station where we will muster and march to Calvary Cemetery with stops at the Jewish Cemetery and Knights of Columbus Memorial.

  • Veteran’s Speaking at Woburn Public Schools May 20-28, 2013.  We are always looking for veterans to volunteer to speak at the school programs, if you are a veteran and interested in speaking at a future Veteran’s Day or Memorial Day program at a school, please contact our office.
  • Thursday May 23 at 12:00pm:  Veterans Services at the Woburn Senior Center, 144 School Street.  All are welcome to attend.
  • Friday May 24 at 10am Flags at Calvary Cemetery:  Volunteers needed putting flags on graves with the George A. Campbell American Legion Post 101
  • Saturday May 25 at 10am Flags at Woodbrook Cemetery: Volunteers needed putting flags on graves with the VFW Post 543
  • Sunday May 26 at 9am Memorial Day church services at St. Barbara’s Church:  138 Cambridge Road Wobun, MA
  • Sunday May 26 Veterans Breakfast following the church services a 10:15am:  Annual Memorial Day veteran’s breakfast at the Moose Lodge, 4 Federal Street Woburn
  • Monday May 27 at 8:45am Memorial Day Parade and Ceremonies:  Memorial Day parade and ceremony on Woburn Common; parade continues to Woodbrook and Calvary Cemeteries (see accompanying parade agenda)

  • Posting of Colors – All Units
  • Flag Raising – Joe Limonciello, Dave Epps and Denis Maher
  • Opening Prayer – Deacon Phil Hardcastle
  • Selection: Woburn City Band – Armed Service Melody sung by Joanne Campbell
  • Governor’s Proclamation – Read by WMHS student Shannon Alessandroni, President of the Sophomore Class
  • Selection: Woburn Memorial High School Band
  • “God Bless America” sung by Joanne Campbell
  • Honor Roll:  read by George Poole, Commander of the United Veteran’s Council
  • Benediction – Deacon Phil Hardcastle
  • Firing of volley by the Marine Corps League
  • Taps by the city band and “National Anthem” by combined bands, “Star Spangled Banner”
  • Please join us as we march to Woodbrook Cemetery

 Woodbrook Cemetery – Soldier’s Lot Common – 9:25 a.m.

  • Posting of the Colors

  • Reading of General Logan’s Order by WMHS student Trevor Barnett, President of the Junior Class
  • Selection by the Woburn Memorial High School Band

  • Firing of the volley by the Marine Corps League
  • Taps by the city band and “National Anthem” by combined bands, “Star Spangled Banner”
  • All are welcome to join us – we are now driving over to the East Woburn Fire Station for a brief respite and then we march on to the Jewish/Calvary Cemeteries
