Five Things You Need to Know Today, April 1

It's April Fools' Day and more.

"Five Things You Need to Know Today" is a Patch column that provides readers with essential, daily information at a glance. Let us know what you think of the feature in the comments section.

Today is Friday, April 1. Here are five things you need to know:

  1. Snow: No, really. It’s probably going to snow this morning. The National Weather Service isn’t playing an April Fools’ joke on us, it really is forecasting about an inch of snow accumulation today. While morning snow has a 100 percent chance of happening, nighttime snow is just at 60 percent. We choose to think that there is a 40 percent chance of no snow!
  2. Spring sports: The spring sports season starts tonight with taking on Lexington at 4 p.m. The will play Lexington in that town, also starting at 4 p.m.
  3. Baby songs: We can hear the babies and toddlers singing from here! The popular program is back at the every Friday morning from 9:30 to 10 a.m. The program is for the teensiest of Woburnites, ages newborn to 3-years-old.
  4. In case you missed it: The School Committee made it official Wednesday night, accepting the for the coming school year. The redistricting of elementary school students focuses primarily on the children who will be placed in the and new schools when school opens in September. Read all about the vote and discussion here.
  5. A soap is born: While many think of this date as April Fools’ Day, we here at Woburn Patch like to think of it as the birth of General Hospital, our favorite soap opera. On this date in 1963, the sudsy drama premiered on ABC, focusing on the doctors and nurses of General Hospital in fictional Port Charles, NY. The show would give us enduring couples like Luke and Laura and Sonny and Brenda. While many soaps have gone under in the last few years, General Hospital remains.
