Today is Monday, April 18. Here are five things you need to know:

  1. Clouds abound: Unfortunately, yesterday’s perfect weather couldn’t stay with us today. The National Weather Service is predicting cloudy skies and rain, most likely after 2 p.m. today. Bring that umbrella with you, you will probably need it after school or work today.  
  2. City Council meets: The in the chambers. On the agenda for tonight are several public hearings, including a discussion of whether 52-54 High St. is a public nuisance or not. Also, aldermen are expected to hear discussion on a 98-unit condo development for 859 Main St.
  3. Dwyer campaign: State House Rep. Jim Dwyer will hold a tonight in Boston at the Grotto restaurant on Bowdoin Street. A suggestion donation is requested.
  4. In case you missed it: A new family-oriented community day is coming to Woburn next month. The first, of what organizers hope will be many, Horn Pond Days will be held May 21. . 
  5. A cult attack: On this day in 1993, the FBI attacked the Branch Davidian compound in Waco, TX with tear-gas vehicles and grenades. The attack occurred after a 51-day standoff between the federal government and the religious cult. The cult garnered FBI attention for illegal possession of firearms and explosives. FBI agents and cult members exchanged gunfire in February, leading to the tear-gas assault in April. At least 80 Branch Davidians, including cult leader David Koresh, and 22 children were killed when a fire began on the compound during the attack.
