4) In Case You Missed It: A super model visited Woburn this weekend! Plus-size model Emme, known worldwide as someone breaking through society's barriers of beautiful women being thin. Read about Emme's visit to our city here.

5) Soviets write to American student: On this day in 1983, Soviet leader Yuri Andropov sent a letter to fifth-grader Samantha Smith of Manchester, Maine. Students sent letters to many foreign leaders as school assignments, but Andropov chose to write back to Samantha personally. The letter promoted Soviet way of life and said that the country would not be the first to use a nuclear weapon against another country. He even invited Samantha to a three-week tour of Russia, which the fifth-grader accepted. Andropov died a year later, and Samantha Smith, then 13, was killed in a plane crash in 1985.
