Five Things You Need To Know Today, Aug. 21

Here are five things you need to know today:

1) So what's it gonna be? Sunny or rainy?

According to the National Weather Service, we could see some rain and thunder today, likely after 11 a.m. But other than that, it'll be a mostly sunny day with temperatures in the mid-80s.

2) Pop Warner looking for golfers

The Woburn Pop Warner fundraising golf tournament is coming up on Aug. 27, but coordinators are still looking for golfers! The fee is $150 and the group is still looking for three foursomes. The fee includes greens fees, cart, lunch and a gift. The fun begins at 6:30 a.m. with registration and a continental breakfast. WAAF's radio personality "Spaz" (Anthony Parziale of Woburn) will emcee the event. Email CoachLafferty@comcast.net for more information!

Quite a few news stories were posted yesterday... A man tackles a burglar in the middle of a break-in in which also included police finding a sleeping toddler in a locked car at Target; several , including a carjacking suspect and a man who allegedly beat his victim repeatedly over five hours; and on the latest dig for the missing teen's remains. 

5) Aloha!

On this day in 1959, Hawaii joined the United States as the 50th state in the Union. This also marked the day when our nation's flag took its current form as President Dwight Eisenhower ordered the 50th star added to the flag. Hawaii, at 10,931 square miles over seven separate populated islands, is the only state made up entirely of islands and is the most northern part of the Polynesian islands.
