2) Catmobile visits Woburn

The Catmobile will be in Woburn today. You can book an appointment with the Catmobile techs by going online at www.catmobile.org or calling 978-465-1940. The care package includes a brief exam, spay/neuter, rabies vaccination for cats over 12 weeks of age (weighing 1.5kg/3.3 lbs.), flea treatment and nail trim.

3) Event spotlight

The city's License Commission will meet tonight at 5:30 p.m. at committee room. There's only one item on the agenda, but it's an interesting one—a petition from on Main Street for a "BYOB" license. If approved, patrons would be able to bring their own beer or wine to the eatery.

5) The murder of Emmett Till

On this day in 1955, 14-year-old Emmett Till was brutally murdered for what two white men considered a crime—flirting with a white woman in Mississippi. The woman's husband and brother found Emmett and forced him to carry a 75-pound cotton gin to the Tallahatchie River, then brutally beat and shot the teenager before throwing him, still attached to the cotton gin, into the water. His mother held a funeral for him in Chicago, with an open casket, which was photographed and published in national magazines. But, despite the outrage over his murder, Till's killers were found not guilty by a jury.
