1) Event spotlight

Don't forget, there is an election on Thursday! Sept. 6 will be the state primary election for the Democratic, Republican and Green Rainbow parties. If you are planning to vote by absentee ballot, you must file an application with the City Clerk's office before Wednesday at noon.

2) Trent's Troopers

A will be held on Ash Street on Saturday, selling housewares, CDs, toys, books and furniture. All the proceeds will be donated to the Jimmy Fund in honor of Trent and his Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk Team Trent's Troopers. 

 

3) One more sizzler!

According to the National Weather Service, we'll enjoy another day of scorching summer weather today! Woburn is expected to hit 92 degrees for a high with some gusty winds and sunny skies. Saturday and Sunday will be much cooler with temps leveling off at 77 degrees on Labor Day.

 

4) In case you missed it

We know it's a crazy time of the year—you're trying to cram in some last-minute back to school shopping, as well as your Labor Day end-of-summer barbecues. 5) Jack the Ripper's first victim

On this day in 1888, Jack The Ripper's first victim—Mary Ann Nichols—was found killed and mutilated in London. Four other women were similarly murdered and mutilated by the serial killer, who was never found. The killer got his name from two letters sent to the police containing information only the murderer would have known. Both letters were signed "Jack the Ripper." The last women killed by Jack was found on Nov. 7, 1888. With no more victims and no other leads, police closed the case in 1892.
