Five Things You Need To Know Today, Aug. 6

Here are five things you need to know today:

1) Where'd the sun go?

Although we'll see some sun today, it's probably going to be a bit of a wash-out. According to the National Weather Service, we'll start off with partly sunny skies and a chance of thunder before 11 a.m. with more rain before 2 p.m. Along with that thunder could be heavy rain, says the NWS. Temperatures will be in the 80s. 

2) Tanner Pride

The is closed this morning until noon for an event called Tanner Pride. The club routinely closes for special events, including this one. Check their website often for changes and updates! 

3) Event spotlight

The Woburn Basketball Youth Summer Basketball Program starts today and will run until August 9. The clinic is from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and children must bring a water bottle and snack from home.

5) 'What's happenin', Hot Stuff?'

While many people know August 6 as the day that the United States dropped the atomic bomb on Hiroshima (1945), it is also the day Lucille Ball (1911) and Andy Warhol (1928) were born and John Hughes (2009) died. Hughes, an American filmmaker, was best-known and beloved for his 1980s movies, including Sixteen Candles, Pretty in Pink, the Breakfast Club and Ferris Bueller's Day Off. He also wrote the movie National Lampoon's Vacation. Hughes died of a heart attack at age 59 in New York City.
