2) Former Recreation Director Honored

The city recently dedicated the to deceased former Recreation Director Tom Jones, reported the Boston Globe. Jones served as the rec director for 34 years between 1972 and 2006. Jones was also an active Rotarian, serving as president of the club in 2003-04. Jones passed away in February of 2007, eight months after his retirement. 

 

3) Event spotlight

The national program Spark & Hustle is coming to Woburn today. Join Tory Johnson, a Good Morning America contributor and New York Times bestselling author, for a day-long presentation and conference on enhancing small business. According to Johnson, the day promises to help women in particular learn new ways to build business and meet prospective clients, collaborators and customers. The program will be held at the .

5) 'I got friends in low places...'

On this day in 1997, Garth Brooks performed to thousands of people at Central Park in New York City. Although it was widely reported that hundreds of thousands of people attended the event, that fact was disputed years later. Brooks' fans filled the North Meadow, as well as any other open spot within earshot, for the show, which was also televised. Brooks performed some of his biggest hits, such as The Thunder Rolls and Friends in Low Places. He even did the infamous third verse of the latter!
