Today is Thursday, August 11. Here are five things you need to know:

  1. Sunny days: The National Weather Service’s forecast for today is short and sweet, and we like it—“Sunny, with a high near 81.” Thanks, NWS.
  2. Stilts aren’t just for funny walking: Sometimes they’re for building houses! If you’re five-years-old and up, head to the for a program on stilt-houses and then make your own!
  3. A magical time: Woburnites young and old will enjoy an today at 11 a.m.
  4. In case you missed it: Nadine’s Photo of the Day yesterday was an absolute stunner. If you didn’t click yesterday, make sure to .
  5. The Rock: On this day in 1934, the federal prisoners deemed “most dangerous” were placed in a new high-security facility called Alcatraz. We know, we’ve had a lot of crime-related facts this week, but we could not overlook Alcatraz. It’s an icon in American culture! Alcatraz is known as the prison that held Al Capone when he was finally jailed, the place that no one ever escaped (alive anyway), and the set for many movies and novels. Now, Alcatraz is a popular tourist destination and museum.
