  5. Stay out of the boiler room: On this day in 1939, Wes Craven was born. The filmmaker is best known for creating horror icon Freddy Krueger in 1984 with the first Nightmare on Elm Street movie. The movie focused on Krueger, a disfigured child killer who terrorized a fictional Ohio community. Craven went on to also direct the Scream movies and Music of the Heart.
