Today is Tuesday, August 30. Here are five things you need to know:

  1. Irene who?: Tropical Storm Irene is nothing but a memory today, and a distant one at that, as the city is expected to have clear skies and lots of sunshine today, just like yesterday. The National Weather Service is forecasting temperatures in the low 80s.
  2. Service organizations: The will meet at 12:15 p.m. today, and at 6:45 p.m. This is the weekly meting for both organizations.
  3. Senior Center: The will hold an open meeting today at 10:30 a.m. On the agenda are grounds’ needs and priorities, as well as fiscal year 2011 accomplishments.
  4. In case you missed it: Two cars get in an accident. And neither one has a driver. How does that happen? A man having lunch causes another accident. And a guy falls asleep at the wheel, causing a third. All that and a couple of plastic bottles explode in .
  5. Sailing takes me away: On this day in 1980, Christopher Cross’ “Sailing” hit number one on the Billboard pop chart. The song was Cross’ second single from his self-titled album. Cross achieved fame from the soft-rock song, and won four Grammy awards thanks to it. Cross still tours today and is most known for “Sailing,” “Arthur’s Theme” and “Think of Laura,” all Top 10 hits.
