Today is Tuesday, August 9. Here are five things you need to know:

  1. Mostly sunny: Although we may experience some rain and thunder tonight, the National Weather Service is expecting mostly sunny skies for the day. Temperatures will likely fall in the mid to high 70s.         
  2. Wordsmiths wanted: Looking to challenge other teens and adults at ? Stop by the every Tuesday this summer for drop-in Scrabble games after 7 p.m.
  3. City Council: The is on a summer schedule, but will meet tonight at at 7 p.m. One the agenda are several public hearings, including one for a 98-unit complex on Main Street, a 40B complex proposal and a request to alter a Main Street Dunkin Donuts.  
  4. In case you missed it: Weekends are always busy for the Woburn Police, who respond to all emergencies in the city. One of the stranger calls they responded to in the first weekend of August was a report of a random John Deere four-by-four vehicle found in a backyard. .
  5. The Manson “Family” kills five: On this day in 1969, Charles Manson’s “family” of followers killed five people, including the pregnant actress Sharon Tate, also the wife of Roman Polanski, and coffee heiress Abigail Folger. Manson was not in the house during the killings, but was later charged with murder because of his influence on the killers. Manson is still in a California prison.
