Five Things You Need to Know Today, Dec. 14

Craft Night at the Moose is postponed.

Here are five things you need to know today:

1) Snow?: There’s a chance we may see some snow tonight, according to the National Weather Service. The NWS is forecasting a clear day with temps in the 40s, but advising that we may see some snow overnight. Don’t worry, the NWS says that it’s not likely to stick to the ground.

3) Event spotlight: The annual Winterfest concert will be held tonight at 7 p.m. Admission is free, but donations are happily accepted. Also tonight, the PTO is presenting a Winter “Magical” Family Fun Night. Doors will open at 6:15 and a magic show will begin at 7 p.m. Cost is $5 per person, with no more than $20 per family.

4) In case you missed it: Our Photo of the Day yesterday was of a special Christmas tree outside the Beacon Grille restaurant. It’s a “green” Christmas tree. Just what does that mean? ! Want to submit your own photo of the day? Text us at 781-502-8325 or e-mail woburn@patch.com.

5) Quantum physics is born: On this day in 1900, German physicist Max Planck published a groundbreaking study that explained the quantum theory of modern physics. According to Planck, energy could exhibit physical matter characteristics in certain situations. Planck was awarded a Nobel Prize for his work, which was later advanced by Albert Einstein and other scientists. (And with today’s fun fact, we tip our hats to Mr. Perez, who patiently explained physics to Local Editor Danielle Masterson, who didn’t always quite understand it. Thanks, Mr. Perez! This one's for you!)
