1) Chilly, chilly!: We may see sunshine today, but expect it to be rather cold today. The National Weather Service is forecasting temperatures to be near freezing at 32 degrees. Maybe the city’s outdoor ice rink at will begin to freeze again?

2) Housing Authority: The city’s Housing Authority will hold its regular monthly meeting today at 6:30 p.m. The WHA meets at 70 Warren Avenue in the building’s community room.

 

3) Event spotlight: The Woburn Recreation Department’s Travel Basketball Tournament continues today at 8 a.m. Students in grades 5 through 8 will play over 100 games at the Kennedy, Joyce, Goodyear and Woburn High schools.   

 

4) In case you missed it: Your tax bills will be in the mail soon, before the end of the week.

 

5) It’s fun to stay at the… : On this day in 1851, the first American YMCA opened in Boston. The Young Men’s Christian Association opened its doors as an opportunity to provide a “home away from home” to sailors in the Boston area. The first Canadian YMCA had opened less than a month before in Montreal. The Y’s history dates back to the 1840s in London.
