Five Things You Need To Know Today, Feb. 18

Will it hit 60 degrees today?

Today is Friday, Feb. 18. Here are five things you need to know:

  1. Rumors: Although we’ve heard rumors that today’s temperatures are going to hit 60, the National Weather Service forecast is rather conservative. The NWS reports that the high for Friday will only be 48 in Woburn. Either way, we’ll take it. It’ll be much warmer than the temps we’re used to this winter! Expect some rain showers today as you drive to work or school, but by 8 a.m., the rain ends and the fog will roll in with some clouds.
  2. More savings: A great discount that didn’t make it into our feature on is the 50-percent-off coupon at this week. The coupon is good until Saturday and can be printed online. And if you have a smartphone, A.C. Moore cashiers will accept coupons shown to them from your cell phone. We appreciate all the ways that A.C. Moore makes crafting affordable to Woburnites!
  3. School updates: We love how tech-savvy the Woburn Public Schools are! If you haven’t checked out their Web site, or Supt. Mark Donovan’s Twitter feed, you missed three different updates yesterday. Catch up on them here.
  4. In case you missed it: Our yesterday featured some fantastic photos of the , taken by photographer . Our favorite was the lead photo on the page yesterday, a picture of firefighter Mark Robishaw trying to cool off after a fire. .
  5. Happy Birthday!: Today is an absolutely huge day in pop culture birthdays. Here are just some of the celebrities born on this day in history and what year they were born: George “The Gipper” Gipp (1895), of “Win one for the Gipper” fame at Notre Dame; Toni Morrison (1931), noted author and poet; Yoko Ono (1933), we know we don’t have to tell you who she is; Dennis DeYoung (1947), the man who gave us Mr. Roboto; Cybill Sheppard (1950), actress known mostly for her role on Moonlighting; John Hughes (1950), the 1980s wouldn’t be the same without this moviemaker; Juice Newton (1952), we’ve been singing Angel of the Morning since we wrote this; John Travolta (1954), he made disco dancing cool; Vanna White (1957), no one spins a letter like she does; Andy Moog (1960), we love the Bruins!; Matt Dillon (1964), known for many roles, he’ll always be Dally from The Outsiders to Woburn Patch; Dr. Dre (1965), what up, dogg?; Molly Ringwald (1968), star of umpteen Brat Pack films in the late 1980s.
