Today is Tuesday, Feb. 22. Here are five things you need to know:

  1. Cold & clear: Well, it looks like winter isn’t going anywhere for a little while at least. According to the National Weather Service, today’s temperatures won’t get out of the mid-20s. But the sun is expected to shine for most of the day. Keep those sunglasses—and mittens—handy!
  2. Hip check: If you’re looking for some hockey action, head over to the Ned O’Brien Ice Rink and catch the girls’ ice today. To learn more about the team, read about this year’s on Woburn Patch.
  3. Meet the labs: While readers are quite familiar with , some of you may not know about Woburn Patch’s other pup, Jake. He is a black Labrador Retriever and he has begged us to take him to this event at today. The store is hosting a Lab Meet & Greet for pooches and parents, where you can mingle with other labs and even enjoy some refreshments. The event is from 5 to 6 p.m. tonight.
  4. In case you missed it: This week’s is truly patchtastic. Rebecca Donahue is known for her awesome grades, her bright and friendly personality, and her work with the . Find out more about Rebecca here!
  5. The pedestrian: On this day in 1861, Edward Payson Weston began a 10-day, 10-hour trek from Boston to Washington, D.C.—on foot. Weston lost a bet and had to walk the 478 miles to Abraham Lincoln’s inauguration. During the walk, he faced inclement weather and fell many times. But in addition to a bag of peanuts, he received a congratulatory handshake from President Lincoln and fame and notoriety. Weston continued to walk long distances for the rest of his “professional” walking career until he was struck by a New York taxi in 1927. He never walked again. Is that irony?
