1) Near 60 degrees in February? Yes: The warmer-than-normal temperatures are going to continue today. According to the National Weather Service, we can expect isolated showers this morning, mainly between 8 and 9 a.m., and then it will begin to clear until conditions are mostly sunny. High temperature near 56 degrees. A chance of showers tonight with a low around 35.

2) Puppets!: Learn how to make sock puppets at the Woburn Public Library's Children's Room workshop today at 10:30 a.m. Find out more here.

 5) Monumental appropriation: On this day in 1855, the U.S. voted to appropriate $200,000 for the continued work of the Washington Monument in honor of the nation's first president. However, the next day the bill was stalled and congress didn't take up the issue again for 21 years. The monument was finally dedicated on Feb. 21, 1885 and was opened to the public in 1888. The Washington Monument, constructed of marble, granite and bluestone gneiss is both the world's tallest stone structure and tallest obelisk at 555 feet and 5 1/8 inches.
