Five Things You Need To Know Today, Feb. 28

It's Local Editor Danielle Masterson's mom's birthday. And School Committee meets tonight.

"Five Things You Need to Know Today" is a Patch column that provides readers with essential, daily information at a glance. Let us know what you think of the feature in the comments section.

Today is Monday, Feb. 28. Here are five things you need to know:

  1. More rain… again: After Friday’s torrential rains, we are likely to see more wet weather today. According to the National Weather Service, there will be a mix of rain, freezing rain and sleet before 11 a.m. this morning, before we’re faced with a rainy rest of the day. Temperatures are expected to be in the mid-40s today.
  2. Clapp School debate: The discussion over the possible leasing of the continues tonight with a special 6 p.m. meeting of the School Committee. The only item on the agenda is the contentious Clapp School rental. Read all about the subject here in our preview to the meeting.
  3. Reading is awesome: If you’re a teen and you love to read, stop by the tonight for the Young Adult Book Club session. The group is currently reading “The Thief” by Megan Whalen Turner.
  4. In case you missed it: The super-talented Rose-Antoinette Bellino of Pento Road was profiled in this week’s Patch People feature. In addition to attending college, this incredibly-voiced teen has her sights set on an opera career.
  5. You oughtta know: On this day in 1996, Alanis Morissette was awarded a Grammy for her album “Jagged Little Pill.” The Canadian songstress’ album gave us several hits, including “You Oughtta Know,” “Ironic” and “Hand in My Pocket.” And, although we’re huge Alanis fans and actually have all of her CDs, we still think the lyrics of “Ironic” weren’t really ironic. More like bad luck, Alanis. But, that’s OK, we’ll forgive you. This time.
