Today is Thursday, Feb. 3. Here are five things you need to know:

  1. Good day, sunshine!: Finally! The National Weather Service is forecasting a respite from the snow, sleet and rain. According to the NWS, there will be sunny skies in Woburn today and temperatures in the mid-20s. Even though that’s mighty chilly, we must admit, we’re happy it won’t be snowing.
  2. Back to normal: With the winter storm finally over, it looks like things are returning to normal. The city’s official Web site shows that committee meetings are going forward as scheduled tonight. The Board of Health and Recreation Commission are both meeting this evening.
  3. Sisters in crime: We have to admit, we love the Friends of the events. Each one seems more interesting than the last! Tonight, head on over library to hear mystery writers Sarah Smith and Toni L.P.Kelner discuss .
  4. In case you missed it: On Monday, Schools reporter Nadine Wandzilak trekked out to the and to talk to students and parents about whether they are enjoying the snow days off from school, or if they’re just plain sick and tired of them. Our favorite quote came from little Gary Silva, a first-grader at Hurld. If you missed it, .
  5. The day the music died: On this day in 1959, a small-plane crash in Iowa killed three famous musicians—Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and J.P. “The Big Bopper” Richardson. The three men, along with the pilot, were killed instantly when the plane crashed in a cornfield. Authorities reported the cause of the crash as weather conditions, along with operator error by the pilot. The men were performing in “The Winter Dance Party” tour and decided to fly to their next stop because their tour bus’ heating system had broken down. The flight took off just before 1 a.m. and was reported missing around 3:30 a.m. By 9:15 a.m., the wreckage and the bodies of the musicians were found in the cornfield, just five miles northwest of the airport where the plane took off from.
