1) Calm before the storm: Looks like we may see some winter weather on Thursday this week, according to the National Weather Service. But, today will be pretty calm, reports the NWS. Expect sunshine and temperatures in the mid-30s. The snow will come after 8 a.m. tomorrow.

2) Senior Center lecture: The is hosting a breakfast lecture on a home modification loan program. Breakfast is available at 9:45 a.m., followed by the lecture at 10:30 a.m.

 

3) Event spotlight: The Parent-Teacher Organization is sponsoring a Cooperation Counts seminar at the school tonight at 7 p.m. The event will feature discussion on the Cooperation Counts parenting program. Books will be available for purchase.

 

4) In case you missed it: Police were forced to summons an 86-year-old resident for assault and battery after an altercation in the man’s home. Also, a former roommate discovered her gerbils had died of neglect after being left in the home.

 

5) Grand Canyon preserved: On this day in 1908, President Theodore Roosevelt declared the Grand Canyon a national monument. The park was part of Roosevelt’s environmental conservation initiative as president. When declaring the canyon a national monument, Roosevelt said, “Let this great wonder of nature remain as it now is. You cannot improve upon it. But what you can do is keep it for your children, your children’s children, and all who come after you, as the one great sight which every American should see.”
