1) A better day: Yesterday’s rain and slush is behind us, and we’ll see spotty sunshine today. According to the National Weather Service, there’s a chance of showers during the school day, but it’ll be partly sunny for most of the day in Woburn. Temperatures will reach the mid-40s.

2) It’s Friday the 13: OK, don’t panic. But it’s Friday the 13th. We know, it’s the most unlucky day of them all... But everything will be OK! The origins of Friday the 13th go way back, mostly because the number 13 has been associated with bad things—Judas was the 13th guest at the Last Supper is just one example. But why is Friday so horrible? Well, in Christian religions, it’s known as the day Jesus was crucified, the day Eve tempted Adam and the day Cain killed Abel. Put the two together and you have one rather unlucky day.

3) Event spotlight: A memorial service will be held in honor of a young Woburn woman killed by an ex-boyfriend, at St. Barbara’s Church Sunday morning.

4) In case you missed it: The four defendants charged in connection with the shooting of Woburn Police Officer Robert DeNapoli in September were in court Thursday for arraignment.

5) An ‘Army of God’: On this day in 1128, Pope Honorius II granted a papal sanction to the Knights Templar, a military order whose mission was to protect Christians as they went to the Holy Land during the Crusades. Eventually, the Templar was dissolved. It’s known in modern times thanks to the popular novel The Da Vinci Code.
