1) Be careful driving: Make sure to keep both hands on the wheel this morning! According to the National Weather Service, it will be a slippery commute as rain and sleet are expected before 8 a.m. Temperatures will be around 47 degrees today.

2) City Council Committees: The City Council’s committees will meet tonight at City Hall at 7 p.m. The groups meeting include: Finance, Personnel, Special Permits and Public Safety/Licenses.

 

3) Event spotlight: at City Hall today at 3 p.m. Stop by and say hello!

 

4) In case you missed it: Our Where Is It? column this week looked at small “faces” on utility poles in Woburn. We’re not sure exactly what they’re there for, though. Do you know? Tell us here!

 

5) First female doctor: On this day in 1849, the first woman doctor earns a degree at Geneva College in New York. Elizabeth Blackwell is not a household name, but she is a pioneer for women. Blackwell not only served in private practice, she also opened the New York Infirmary for Women and Children in 1857. Less than 10 years later, the infirmary was expanded to include a women’s college for doctors and nurses.
