1) Hang onto your hats: We can expect more cold and wind today, as the National Weather Service is forecasting temperatures in the mid-30s and wind gusts up to 22 miles per hour. But, the sun will be shining, so maybe it’ll feel a bit warmer than it is out there!

2) Trash delayed: Don’t forget, your trash pick-up will be a day late thanks to the New Year’s holiday observance Monday.

 

3) Event spotlight: The city’s Recreation Commission will hold its regular monthly meeting tonight at . The meeting begins at 7 p.m. In addition to electing a new chairperson, the commission will discuss new business related to Weafer Park and the Weafer playground.

 

4) In case you missed it: Woburn Fire quickly extinguished a two-alarm house fire yesterday. The two-family home suffered damage to the second and third floors.

 

5) Construction of a modern wonder: On this day in 1933, construction began on San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge, which connects the city with Marin County and was built to alleviate high pressure from the many commuters that were using the ferry service. The 1.7 mile long, 746 foot tall steel bridge, which is held up with 80,000 miles of wire in the main cable and approximately 1,200,000 rivets was completed in April of 1937. The Golden Gate Bridge is now the second-largest bridge in the United States and it has been declared one of the modern Wonders of the World by the American Society of Civil Engineers.
