Today is Friday, July 1. Here are five things you need to know:

  1. Get ready for the weekend: Looks like today will have a bit of clouds and sun, according to the National Weather Service. But temperatures are expected to be around 78 degrees, as we gear up for the holiday weekend. And it looks like the sun and high temps will be with us straight through July 4!
  2. City Hall: Don’t forget, will be closed on Monday in observance of the Fourth of July holiday. It will reopen on Tuesday, July 5. As always, Woburn Police, Fire and Public Works will be available for emergencies.
  3. Trash delayed: Trash pick-up for residents will be delayed next week due to the holiday. If your trash is normally picked up on Monday, it will be on Tuesday; Tuesday on Wednesday; and so on.
  4. In case you missed it: arrested a man for breaking and entering… after finding him sitting on the side of the road. Next to the items he allegedly stole. .
  5. Take your music with youOn this day in 1979, the first Sony Walkman went on sale. The device allowed people to walk around while listening to their favorite music on a portable stereo device. Although it only sold 3,000 in the first month, disappointing the Sony company, the Walkman would become a technological marvel owned by almost everyone. Really, how did we ever workout before the Walkman?
