Look what we found on eBay!

Today is Monday, July 11. Here are five things you need to know:

  1. Back to sun: Looks like we’ll have some sunshine today, according to the National Weather Service. But beware, the NWS is forecasting some showers and thunderstorms tonight. Expect temperatures to be in the high 80s.
  2. Whale Rider: Visit New Zealand without leaving Woburn! The film . The event is open to residents of all ages, particularly families.
  3. Fun with eBay: We found a neat postcard dating back to 1908 on eBay this weekend. The postcard shows the Woburn Public Library—you can see how little the building has changed in over 100 years!—but we really like the message on the back. Click here to see what was sent to Miss Maye Blodgett FitzWilliam. (Link will take you off of Woburn Patch.)
  4. In case you missed it: Every Sunday, we take a look at the previous week in police and fire news. So, if you were on vacation for the holiday, check in with our Week in Review and see what you missed in the police log.
  5. Not just a milk commercial punch line: On this day in 1804, Aaron Burr killed Alexander Hamilton in a duel in Weehawken, NJ. The two were intense political enemies, and Hamilton allegedly detested Burr, who was vice president under Thomas Jefferson. In 1804, after falling out of favor with Jefferson, Burr challenged Hamilton to an “affair of honor.” In the duel, Burr shot Hamilton in the stomach, killing him. But, since he was vice president, he was immune to prosecution at the time, although the general public was outraged at Hamilton’s murder.
