  5. Heatwave: On this day in 1995, the first heat advisory was issued in Chicago, Illinois for a severe heat wave. The record-breaking heat wave caused temperatures of over 100 degrees, which combined with humidity, made it feel like 120 degrees. Adding onto that, nighttime temperatures never went below 80 degrees. The heat even caused train tracks to warp. When the heat broke a week later, nearly 1,000 people were dead due to the heat in Illinois and Wisconsin.
