"Five Things You Need to Know Today" is a Patch column that provides readers with essential, daily information at a glance. Let us know what you think of the feature in the comments section.

Today is Thursday, July 14. Here are five things you need to know:

  1. Just about perfect: The heat will break—just a bit!—today with temperatures most likely staying in the 70s. The National Weather Service is expecting a high of 79 degrees and sunshine all day. Now, that sounds just about perfect.
  2. Attention teen chefs: Do you love to cook? Do you want to learn how to make fresh, healthy dishes using local foods? Then make sure you clear out time in your busy night for the workshop from 7 to 8 p.m. tonight. Although the presentation is geared toward teens, people of all ages are welcome.
  3. Fun with eBay: Count Rumford fans take note! There is an auction on eBay right now featuring a New England Magazine article on the count from 1893. The pictures look like the four-page piece is in good condition. Take a look at the auction here, but remember the link will take you off of Woburn Patch.
  4. In case you missed it: We started a new feature yesterday called Now, you need look no further than Woburn Patch to plan your weekend at the movies! We’ll have the movie times listed for Friday, Saturday and Sunday, as well as links to information about the movies. .
  5. Napster wasn’t far behind: On this day in 1995, the world was introduced to the “MPEG-1 Audio Layer 3” computer files. Not sure what those are? We bet you have hundreds! They are MP3s, a small file that produces CD-quality music. The new file format caused some problems, though, as the small MP3s meant that computer users could share them easily on the Internet.
