The high temperatures stay with us today, as our heat wave continues. According to the National Weather Service, we'll partly sunny skies and temps up to 97 degrees! That will be close to a record-setter for us in Woburn. The highest temperature reached on July 17 here was 98 degrees in the summer of 1999.

2) Recent history

On this day in 2007, the Woburn City Council met in to discuss several items, including the request for a Sarku to open at the Woburn Mall. The board also ordered the Inspection Services department to dispose of its old photocopier. No one else wanted it!

3) Event Spotlight

Like to run? Want to take part in a timed-5K race on Commerce Way? Then head over to where you can run the tonight at 6:30 p.m. Each runner gets free appetizers at OTB after the race!

4) In Case You Missed It

A naked teenaged girl was a witness for a protective custody arrest on school property Sunday. Miss the story yesterday? .

5) Which way to California?

On this day in 1938, "Wrong Way" Douglas Corrigan was given permission from aviation authorities to fly from New York to California in a little 1929 Curtiss Robin aircraft. But Corrigan really wanted to make history and fly across the Atlantic Ocean. However, authorities said his plane would never make it and said he could only take it across land to the West Coast. Corrigan took off from New York with his plane facing west, but in the air, he made a 180-degree turn and took off. More than a day later, "Wrong Way" landed in Ireland, telling everyone he had lost direction and his compass malfunctioned. Wink, wink!
