Here are five things you need to know today:

1) Summer continues

According to the National Weather Service,  our summer weather will continue today with temperatures in the high 80s and sunny skies.

2) The 39th Volunteer Infantry, Company K

It was on this day in 1862 that seven Woburnites enlisted in the 39th regiment of the Massachusetts volunteer infantry. John Chase, 22, a shoemaker; Hugh Connoly, 21, a currier; William H. Haskins, 21, a cabinetmaker; William H. LeBaron, 19, an iron founder; Andrew R. Linscott, 18, a clerk; Samuel McFeeley, 20, a carpenter; and Ferdinand Spokesfield, 18, a farmer, all enlisted. While Connoly and Hughes died during the war, the others all were discharged or mustered out eventually.

5) She's got a smile it seems to me, reminds me of childhood memories

On this day in 1988, Guns N' Roses broke into the Billboard Top 40 chart with its first hit single—Sweet Child O' Mine. The group, featuring Axl, Slash, Izzy, Duff and Steven Adler, focused on rock more than glam, unlike a lot of 80s bands. Sweet Child O' Mine was the second song off the massively popular Appetite for Destruction album, which also featured Welcome to the Jungle. The song began with what Slash felt was a "throwaway" riff, but has become rock legend.
