Today is Monday, July 4, Independence Day. Here are five things you need to know:

  1. Sunshine and independence: According to the National Weather Service, we are in for a holiday treat today. The NWS is forecasting sunshine and temperatures in the high 80s. A great day to spend with the family or friends to celebrate America.
  2. City Hall: Don’t forget, is closed today in observance of the Fourth of July holiday. As always, Woburn Police, Fire and Public Works is available for emergencies. Trash pick-up will be delayed one day, due to the holiday.

  5. Declaring Independence: On this day in 1776, the Second Continental Congress of what would become the United States officially approved the Declaration of Independence. The document, principally written by Thomas Jefferson, detailed the reasons the new country was splitting from Great Britain.
