Today is Wednesday, July 6. Here are five things you need to know:

  1. Heat it up: The temperatures are still rising today as we could see 90 degrees by this afternoon. According to the National Weather Service, sunshine and heat will dominate today. Sounds pretty good to us!
  2. School finance: If you’re up for it, the will hold its public meeting at 8 a.m. at Joyce Middle School. It’s a short agenda today, with only bills due and account balances on the agenda.
  3. Summer reading fun: As part of the Woburn Public Library’s summer reading program, the Children’s Room is holding atoday. The stamp is then used to help you find a letter-box using clues and maps. Sounds like fun!
  4. In case you missed it: Intrepid reporter Nadine Wandzilak took on the tough task of finding Woburn’s public pools and cooling off yesterday. Although we don’t think she actually took a dip herself, she sure did find a lot of happy Woburnites enjoying the sunshine and chlorine! .
  5. Life is like a box of chocolates: On this day in 1994, one of the most endearing motion picture characters was introduced to the American public. Forrest Gump premiered on July 6 in theaters, and Tom Hanks shined as the lead character, a man with a low IQ who winds up at the heart of several key events in modern history. It was Forrest’s big heart and ability to wax philosophic, as well as his running, that helped Hanks win his second Best Actor Oscar for the film.
