Tales from 221B Baker Street: July 7 is significant for Sherlock Holmes fans for two reasons—it is the birthday of dear Dr. Watson and is also the day that Holmes author Sir Arthur Conan Doyle died in 1930. Dr. Watson is Holmes’ trusty sidekick, as well as his biographer, narrating many of the famous tales from Baker Street. Conan Doyle, a doctor who eventually became a writer full time, was knighted in 1902 for field hospital work in South Africa.
