Today is Wednesday, June 1. Here are five things you need to know:

  1. Watch out: Although the National Weather Service is forecasting a mostly sunny day today, there is a chance that we’ll see scattered thunderstorms and possibly hail after 3 p.m. So, watch out during your evening commute and drive safe! 
  2. Trash pick-up: Don’t forget, trash pick-up is delayed by one day due to the Monday holiday. If your trash is normally picked up today, it will be picked up on Thursday; Thursday on Friday; and so on.

  5. Out of the dark: On this day in 1968, Helen Keller, 87, passed away in Connecticut. Keller was stricken with illness at 19 months and was left blind and deaf. But with the help of the Perkins Institution for the Blind in Boston, she began to learn to communicate via a special sign language in 1887. Keller would learn to speak, as well, and graduated from Radcliffe College in Cambridge before becoming a writer and lecturer. She was given the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1964, just four years before her death.
