Today is Thursday, June 16. Here are five things you need to know:

  1. Heat it up: It’ll be another gorgeous day in the city, according to the National Weather Service. The NWS is forecasting all sun and temperatures in the low 80s. It might be time to move the Patch operation outdoors!
  2. Special meeting: The City Council will meet tonight with Mayor Scott Galvin and Woburn Public Library supporters to discuss , which is in its eleventh-hour. Tonight’s vote will decide what happens. If you care about the library either way, get to City Hall at 7 p.m. tonight!
  3. Great day for a run: The Shamrock Running Club is hosting its annual tonight at 6:30 p.m. The 5-mile road race, 3-mile fitness walk is in memory of Joan Curran, one of the club’s founding members. The run starts at the Woburn Irish American Club on Main Street. All proceeds will be donated to the American Cancer Society and the Home for Little Wanderers.
  4. In case you missed it: We took a look back in time yesterday and published a few . We love to look at history facts and have been finding some really interesting things. Our favorite headline from yesterday was about the high school. !
  5. A nickel to ride: On this day in 1884, the first roller coaster opened at Coney Island in Brooklyn, New York. The ride was only a nickel to ride and travelled 6 miles per hour.  Not only was the first roller coaster at Coney Island, but according to History.com, so was the first hotel and the first hot dog.
