Today is Thursday, June 23. Here are five things you need to know:

  1. Stormy weather: Well, the sunshine is taking a breather for the next couple of days, according to the National Weather Service. The NWS is forecasting showers today, with a possible thunderstorm after 12 p.m. Even if we don’t get rain, the NWS thinks we’ll stay cloudy most of the day. Expect temperatures to stay in the high 60s.  
  2. Outdoor discussions: The Woburn Agricultural Commission will meet tonight at 6 p.m. at to discuss the farmers’ market, as well as an Eagle Scout project and plans for Oktoberfest.
  3. Election season: School Committee candidate Rick Metters is hosting a fundraiser for his election campaign tonight from 7 to 9 p.m. at the American Legion. City Council Alderman Richard Gately is also holding a campaign kick-off tomorrow.
  4. In case you missed it: Principal Wayne Clark got a bit of a break from the hot temperatures Tuesday, as he took at the school’s field day. !
  5. Fall of a Mob Boss: On this day in 1992, infamous New York gangster John Gotti was sentenced to life in prison after being convicted on racketeering charges. All told, the boss of the Gambino crime family was found guilty on charges of five counts of murder, conspiracy to commit murder, loansharking, illegal gambling, obstruction of justice, bribery and tax evasion. Gotti died in prison on June 10, 2002 at the age of 61 from throat cancer.
