Today is Friday, June 24. Here are five things you need to know:

  1. Rain, rain, go away: Unfortunately, the rain is expected to stay with us today, according to the National Weather Service. The NWS is forecasting showers in the morning and more showers and thunderstorms this afternoon. But, there’s a 50-50 shot of whether it will actually rain! Temperatures are expected to stay in the 60s today.
  2. Donate blood: There will be a today from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Spence Farm on Wyman Road. Stop by and help someone today.
  3. Flag football sign-up: Don’t miss out on the opportunity to sign up for the fall season’s . Between 8 a.m. and 12 p.m. today, and every day until July 24, you can sign up your boys for next season.
  4. In case you missed it: Our Patch Picks feature looked at family-friendly restaurants in Woburn yesterday. With school ending on Monday, and temperatures rising in July and August, you’ll want to take the kids out for a treat some nights. Here are five great suggestions for dinner for the whole family.
  5. The “flying disk” of Roswell: On this day in 1997, the U.S. Air Force released a report disputing the claim that aliens landed in Roswell, New Mexico in 1947. According to the report, the items found in Roswell weren’t part of an unidentified flying object, but were actually parts of a weather balloon. And those alien bodies now stored in Area 51? Those were dummies used in parachute tests. But, no matter what the government says, people still visit Roswell and its UFO Museum and Research Center.
