  5. Stayin’ Alive: On this day in 1976, the New York magazine article that inspired the film Saturday Night Fever was published. The story introduced us to the world of the Brooklyn disco and an Italian-American dancer named Vincent. It would spawn the movie, starring John Travolta, and give the world a glimpse into the disco life. But, in 1994, Nik Cohn admitted that his supposedly non-fiction story about Vinnie and the Odyssey 2000 club was almost completely fiction. Only the club was the real. Whatever the truth, the story did make a movie that will live a long time in pop culture history.
