Today is Thursday, June 9. Here are five things you need to know:

  1. If you thought yesterday was hot … Today is going to be even hotter! The National Weather Service is predicting temperatures will get close to 97 in Woburn and triple digits elsewhere. Wow! But while we’ll have sunshine most of the day, we could have thunderstorms sometime this morning.   
  2. Mayor statement: Mayor Scott Galvin released a statement this week thanking residents and vendors for the success of the at . The mayor made a point to single out the Woburn Agricultural Commission, made up of: Paul A. Medeiros, Robert Carley, Michael Benenate, Timothy Mooney and Joseph Patrissi
  3. City Hall: Several meetings are on tap at tonight, including the Woburn License Commission, Human Rights Commission and Conservation Commission. Meetings begin at 6 p.m. at City Hall.

  5. Worcester tornado: Last week’s tornados that touched down in western Massachusetts weren’t our first here in the commonwealth. On this day in 1953, a deadly twister struck Worcester during one of the most dangerous tornado seasons on record. The storm killed 94 people, including people in Rutland and Holden.
