Today is Thursday, March 17. Here are five things you need to know:

  1. Pot o’ gold: Well, it’s not exactly a pot of gold, but it’s close enough. The National Weather Service is forecasting sunshine and temperatures in the high 50s for this St. Patrick’s Day. That sounds pretty golden to us!
  2. Drive safe: If you’re heading out to celebrate tonight with corned beef, cabbage and a pint of Guinness, make sure you designate a sober driver for the ride home.
  3. Party hearty: The is hosting a St. Patrick’s Day party at the School Street building at 11 a.m. today. Tickets are available at the Senior Center.
  4. In case you missed it: The city is getting a tad bit greener this week, as city officials approved that will help Woburn gain status from the state. The policies include new construction standards, as well as using fuel-efficient vehicles when possible. .
  5. Celebrating St. Patrick: On this day in 461, Saint Patrick died in Saul, Ireland where he built his first church. The patron saint of that country, the legendary man was ordained a bishop and went to Ireland to spread the gospel for nearly 40 years before his death. The holiday is a religious one in Ireland, but is best known across the world as a day to celebrate the luck of the Irish and wear green clothing.
