Today is Monday, March 28. Here are five things you need to know:

  5. A U.S. nuclear incident: On this date in 1979, a valve at the Pennsylvania nuclear power plant Three Mile Island failed, causing the nuclear facility to heat up. Plant employees realized they needed to get cooling water into the valve and started the emergency cooling system. While workers were subjected to harmful radiation levels, no one outside the Three Mile Island facility was exposed. However, the incident left the American public wary of nuclear power and no new nuclear plants have been built since. The incident has been widely discussed lately, as a nuclear power plant in Japan was compromised during the tsunami earlier this month.
